Allocation
of energy resources in an ecological system.
Comparison of ecosystems |
| Activities |
Bingo-like
play leads to vigorous small group discussion and the use of
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as available
energy is allocated. Students choose animal types and sizes based
on resources in the biome. |

Optional but Helpful: A piece
of cloth or butcher paper 1 meter square helps with visualization.

Make
lists of animals in the biome, create drawings or dioramas. Compare
the populations of different ecosystems. Try doubling the area
and see if that changes the kinds of animals that are chosen. |
|
Downloadable file contains
information, directions, and 36 different game cards.
CAUTION: Animal caloric requirements
vary widely and are related to weight, activity level, and environmental
temperature. Caloric requirements in the game are almost certainly
not accurate: they are guesses based on available information
and then simplified so that we can think with them. Warn students
of this please! Then have fun seeing how energy has to be shared
